The albedo of the Earth measures how much of the Sun's light is reflected back into space. As polar ice, boreal snow and glaciers melt, the albedo decreases, and Earth absorbs even more heat. That's positive feedback, and we are very close to a possible tipping point at 450ppm CO2e.
I'm reading Climate Cover-up by James Hoggan (Greystone books, ISBN 978-1-55365-485-8). He devotes a lot of space to Dr Timothy Ball, mentioned in the letter to the ERA editor that sparked my reply, and all the responses that followed. I think the time is near when I will write a follow-up. A bit more research...
